The Eleanor Roosevelt Independent Democratic Club is the official Democratic club for Parts B and D of New York State's 74th Assembly District, which include the neighborhoods of Union Square, Gramercy, Flatiron, Kips Bay, Murray Hill, Tudor City, Turtle Bay, and Midtown East. However, with over 100 members, the Club has a broad reach: our members come from throughout the assembly district and the greater New York City.
In the spirit of the Club’s democratic and progressive values, the Club is named for Eleanor Roosevelt (b. 1884 – d. 1962) who was the longest-serving First Lady of the United States, a political activist, and a diplomat who shaped modern human rights.
Our Mission
The Club works to identify, interview, endorse, and help elect Democratic candidates for judicial and political positions on the local, state and federal levels that reflect our interests and values. The Club helps to influence policy and the shaping of the Democratic Party’s and candidate’s platforms through direct engagement.
We serve our community and neighborhoods by working together with elected officials, community groups, and neighborhood associations. The Club sponsors numerous volunteer and social events throughout the year.
We prioritize development and inclusion of local youth through our civic engagement scholarship initiative.

We typically hold one meeting a month, which is open to all members of the community. Come join us! See the Events Listings on the home page for details on the next meeting.
